Hair extensions in Oklahoma City start getting a lot more attention as we move out of summer and into fall. This is the time of year when many of my clients are ready for something different.
Sometimes that means changing their color. Sometimes they want more dimension. And sometimes they keep showing me pictures of hair that looks fuller, moves differently or has a completely different shape than their natural hair.
That is when I ask a different question.
Do you really want longer hair, or do you want more hair?
There is a difference.
Extensions Are Not Just About Long Hair
When people hear “hair extensions,” they often picture extremely long hair.
Of course, we can create length. But that is only one reason I work with extensions.
Some of my favorite extension transformations are about fullness.
Maybe you like your current length, but your hair feels thinner around the sides.
Maybe you want your ends to look fuller.
Maybe your natural hair reaches a certain length but starts looking too fine when it gets there.
Or maybe you simply want more hair to work with when you style it.
Extensions can give us options that have very little to do with dramatically changing the length.
Sometimes It Is About the Shape
I look at extensions as part of the overall hair design.
If we add hair in the right places, we can change how the entire style looks and moves.
That can mean creating more fullness through the bottom, helping the sides feel more balanced or giving the hair a stronger overall shape.
This is why I do not like starting the conversation with:
“How long do you want your extensions?”
I would rather start with:
“What do you want your hair to look like when we are finished?”
Once I understand that, we can decide what we actually need to get there.
Your Color and Extensions Should Work Together
Color is a big part of creating beautiful extensions.
I do not want your natural hair to look like one thing and the extensions to look like something we added underneath it.
They should work together.
Sometimes extensions can even give us another way to create dimension throughout the finished look.
That is why I like thinking about your color and extensions as one design rather than two completely separate services.
If we are changing your color for fall and you are also considering extensions, I want to plan those things together.
The goal is for someone to look at your hair and think:
“Her hair looks amazing.”
Not:
“She has extensions.”
NBR Is One of the Methods I Work With
I have worked with Natural Beaded Rows, or NBR extensions, because I love being able to create beautiful length and fullness while keeping the finished result natural looking.
But one thing that is important to me is continuing to learn.
Extension techniques continue to evolve, and I continue to work with and learn different approaches.
I do not believe the client should have to walk into the salon already knowing which extension method she needs.
That is my job.
You should be able to tell me what you like about your hair, what you wish you could change, how you normally style it and what you want the finished result to look like.
Then we can talk about the best way to create it.
The Method Should Fit the Hair
Not every head of hair is the same.
Someone with finer natural hair may have very different needs from someone with thick hair who simply wants more length.
Lifestyle matters too.
How often do you wear your hair up?
How do you style it?
How much maintenance are you comfortable with?
What does your natural hair feel like?
What are we doing with your color?
All of those things matter when we start talking about extensions.
I would rather have several tools available to me and choose what makes sense for the client than try to make every client fit into one method.
Fall Is a Great Time to Start the Conversation
September is always an interesting time in the salon.
After months of Oklahoma heat, lake weekends, vacations and wearing hair up, women start thinking about changing things.
Maybe you want to go into fall with more dimension.
Maybe you want richer color.
Maybe you have been growing your hair but cannot get the fullness you want.
Or maybe you are just ready to feel different.
You do not have to know exactly what you want before we talk.
Bring me the pictures you like. Tell me what you do not like about your hair now. Tell me what you wish your hair would do that it does not currently do.
That gives us somewhere to start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can hair extensions be used just for fullness?
Absolutely. Extensions do not have to create dramatically longer hair. For some clients, the primary goal is adding density and fullness while staying relatively close to their natural length.
What are NBR hair extensions?
NBR stands for Natural Beaded Rows. It is an extension method that uses rows of extension hair to create additional length and fullness. Whether NBR is the right approach depends on your natural hair and the result we are trying to create.
Will people be able to tell that I have extensions?
My goal is always for the extensions to blend into the overall design. Color, placement, amount of hair and the cut all contribute to creating a natural looking finished result.
Should I color my hair before getting extensions?
Your color and extension plan should be coordinated. Depending on what we are trying to create, we may make color adjustments as part of preparing for your extensions.
How do I know which extension method is right for me?
You should not have to figure that out on your own. I look at your natural hair, density, color, lifestyle, maintenance expectations and the finished look you want before recommending an approach.
Start With the Hair You Want, Not the Extension Method
If you are thinking about extensions this fall, do not worry about knowing all the terminology or deciding which method you need before we talk.
Start with the result.
Do you want more fullness?
More length?
More hair around the sides?
More movement?
A different shape?
Or do you simply want to look in the mirror and feel like your hair finally looks the way you have always wanted it to?
Once I know where you want to go, we can create the plan to get you there. Schedule a Consultation today!Ar
